John Philip Sousa (1854-1932) é um dos muitos cidadãos com sangue e nome Portugueses que se notabilizou bem longe e que permanece como um ilustre desconhecido.
Aos 78 anos, a 06 de Março de 1932, quando se encontrava em Reading, na Pensilvânia, para dirigir mais um Concerto, o coração atraiçoou-o. Foi sepultado com honras oficiais em Washington, no Cemitério do Congresso.
John Philip Sousa, na sua autobiografia, Marching Along, descreve a criação da marcha The Stars and Stripes Forever. Pelo Natal de 1896, ia num paquete a caminho da Europa, quando teve conhecimento da morte do amigo David Blakely, que era director da sua banda. Então, sensibilizado pela notícia, compôs mentalmente uma música em homenagem do amigo e colega perdido, tomando breves notas num simples papel.
Quando regressou aos Estados Unidos, servindo-se de tais apontamentos, retocou-os e criou a partir deles a marcha que o imortalizaria.

Depois de no final de 2022, termos ficado a saber que em São Jorge, as batatas voam, e as criptomérias têm 90 metros, eis que, existem mais revelações acerca do arquipélago, desta feita, em plena capital, na BTL.
Estes simpáticos jovens, conseguiram mostrar toda a sua criatividade, e não foi pouca, tendo em conta o tempo de antena.
Desde as vacas, para eles, símbolo máximo da região, ao número de ilhas – 3, passando pelo nome de ilhas, como Madeira, ou Ílhavo, nada fica por falhar.
Ainda bem, que a jornalista Solange Vieira, não prolongou a conversa, ou a RTP/A, teria de criar um “isto é gozar com quem
não sabe patavina dos Açores”.
Mais atenção nas aulas de geografia, nem sabem o bem que vos fazia!
