“Nenhuma obra de arte jamais me afetou emocionalmente como esta peça de braço de robô. Ele está programado para tentar conter o fluido hidráulico que está vazando constantemente e é necessário para se manter funcionando… se escapar muito, ele morrerá, então é tentando desesperadamente puxá-lo para trás para continuar a lutar por mais um dia. A parte mais triste é que eles deram ao robô a capacidade de fazer essas ‘danças felizes’ para os espectadores. Quando o projeto foi lançado pela primeira vez, ele dançava, passando a maior parte do tempo interagindo com o multidão, já que poderia rapidamente retirar o pequeno derramamento. Muitos anos depois… parece cansado e sem esperança, pois não há mais tempo suficiente para dançar.. Agora só tem tempo suficiente para tentar manter-se vivo à medida que a quantidade de fluido hidráulico vazado se tornava incontrolável, à medida que o derramamento crescia ao longo do tempo. Vivendo seus últimos dias em um ciclo interminável entre sustentar a vida e simultaneamente sangrar… (Figurativa e literalmente como seu fluido hidráulico foi feito propositalmente para parecer sangue de verdade).
“O braço do robô finalmente ficou sem fluido hidráulico em 2019, parou lentamente e morreu – E agora estou chorando por causa de um maldito braço de robô. Ele foi programado para viver esse destino e não importa o que fez ou quão difícil ele tentou, não havia como escapar. Os espectadores observaram enquanto ele sangrava lentamente até o dia em que ele parou de se mover para sempre. Dizer que ‘isso ressoa’ nem faz justiça. Criado por Sun Yuan e Peng Yu, eles chamaram a peça de ‘Can’t Help Myself’. Que obra-prima. Que mensagem.”
Interpretações ampliadas: o fluido hidráulico em relação a como nos matamos tanto mental quanto fisicamente por dinheiro apenas na tentativa de sustentar a vida, como o sistema é configurado para falharmos de propósito para essencialmente nos escravizar e roubar os melhores anos de vida, nossas vidas para jogar o jogo que as pessoas mais ricas do mundo criaram. Como isso nos rouba a felicidade, a paixão e a paz interior. Como estamos lentamente nos afogando em mais responsabilidades, com mais expectativas de nós, recompensas menos gratificantes e menos tempo livre para nos divertirmos com o passar dos anos. Como realmente não há como escapar do sistema e que estávamos destinados desde o nascimento a seguir um caminho bastante específico que já estava traçado diante de nós. Como podemos dar e dar e dar e quão facilmente podemos ser esquecidos depois que partimos. Como somos amados e respeitados quando somos valiosos, então um dia não o somos mais e nos tornamos um fardo… e como nosso espírito jovem e generoso é roubado de nós à medida que somos expulsos do sistema falido no qual estamos presos. Também pode ser visto como uma representação do ciclo de vida humano e do fato de que nenhum de nós sai vivo deste mundo. Mas também pode servir como um lembrete para se permitir curar, descansar e amar de todo o coração. Que a busca interminável por “mais” não é necessária para encontrar sua própria felicidade interior.”
