Sad news from Melbourne this morning, Jill Jolliffe has passed away yesterday morning, Jill was known as a fearless and outspoken journalist and researcher who will always be held in high esteem by the Timorese people due to her role in truth-telling. The first time she stayed in the old Hotel Turismo was in February 1975 when she came as a delegate from the Australian Union of Students as part of a civil society delegation from Australia to Timor. After the invasion she migrated to Portugal and continued her career as a journalist and write. She was back in the old Hotel Turismo again immediately after the referendum before taking up residence in Darwin. Her investigative reporting continued after independence with her book on Balibo, many articles and her autobiography ‘Run for Your Life’.
