THE choice between hunger or road
Since March 24, India has entered lockdown, like a large part of the world. However, what is possible for one is not necessarily true for others. The world’s second-largest state (over a billion people) is also one of the poorest. In 2012, the World Bank estimated that around 20 % of the population, or 270 million people, lived on less than $ 1,90 a day, or below the extreme poverty line. According to the last 2011 census, about 30 % of the population is made up of migrants from the interior, single men or family leaving the countryside to find work in the city.
