The project “Postcards from Ukraine” aims to record and demonstrate the damage caused to the Ukrainian culture by the Russian troops. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, they have destroyed more than 388 Ukraine’s historical, architectural and archaeological monuments.
The building, which until recently housed the Literary Memorial Museum of Hryhorii Skovoroda, was built in the 18th century. The museum was founded here in 1972. The museum exhibition presented publications of the philosopher’s works, scientific literature and fiction about him, his favourite books, paintings dedicated to him, and sculptures, some personal belongings.
Ukrainian philosopher, theologian, and poet Hryhorii Skovoroda is a symbol of Ukrainian philosophy today, he influenced many generations of Ukrainians, and his museum was a historical monument of national significance.
On May 7, 2022, Russian army shelled the roof of the Skovoroda Museum, and the fire engulfed the entire building. The 18th century building, which was a home for Hryhorii Skovoroda and preserved the memory of his last years of life, has now become a memory itself.
