Woman in Italy Marries Herself at Age 40
Italy’s first public example of sologamy (self-marriage) was performed by Laura Mesi, a 40-year-old fitness instructor and vlogger from near Milan. After a 12-year relationship ended when she was 38, she made a promise to herself: “If by 40 I hadn’t found my soulmate, I’d marry myself.”  
Mesi kept her word. She held a full ceremony complete with a white dress, four bridesmaids, a three-tier cake, and about 70 guests. She even took a solo honeymoon afterward.  
“I firmly believe that each of us must first of all love ourselves,” she told La Repubblica. “You can have a fairytale even without the prince.”
