No one wants to salvage the sunken ship laden with tons of gold and silver. Hundreds of sunken ships recorded around the Azores reveal one of history’s greatest maritime treasures. Although the Azores, located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, have been on sailors’ routes for centuries, the real story is not on the surface of the water, but hidden in its depths. Extensive archaeological studies in recent years have revealed the existence of hundreds of sunken ships known to have carried tons of gold and silver around these Portuguese islands. However, despite all this information, the majority of these wrecks still lie untouched at the bottom of the sea. According to research, more than 250 treasure ships have been identified off the Azores, Madeira, and the Portuguese mainland. Most of these ships date back to the 16th-17th Centuries, a period of intense trade between Europe and the Americas. These ships, laden with gold, silver, precious metals, and trade goods, sank into the dark waters of the Atlantic as a result of storms, pirate attacks, and maritime accidents. #archaeohistories
