Segundo o WPost de hoje, Gaza é uma das áreas mais densamente povoadas do mundo: 2,1 milhões de pessoas, a maioria refugiados das Nações Unidas -resultado das deslocações forçadas na sequência da criação do Estado de Israel em 1948 e da guerra israelo-árabe de 1967.

Segundo a ONU, 95% da população não tem acesso a água potável e está sujeita a frequentes cortes de energia elétrica que paralizam tudo.

As estatísticas do Banco Mundial mostram que em Gaza existe um dos mais elevados índices de desenprego do mundo e 80 por cento da população só tem acesso a serviços básicos com ajuda internacional.
