The astounding climb to the Lohagad fort located in Maharashtra state, India.
Perched atop an impressive hill at a soaring height of 1,033 m (3,389 ft) above sea level, Lohagad fort is situated close to the hill station Lonavala and 52 km (32 mi) northwest of Pune. This incredible fort was constructed back in the 18th century and has around 350 steps from the base leading to the top. It was under the Maratha empire for the majority of the time, with a short period of 5 years under the Mughal empire. Lohagad fort represents the perfect combination of ancient architecture and picturesque surroundings. During the monsoon, the top of the fort is covered with mist and clouds and becomes particularly wet with growing moss. But this is the best season to visit the fort due to the breathtaking verdant sceneries.
