A study by researchers at the University of Stockholm (Sweden) and the University of Manchester (UK) Foundation Trust, published in the scientific journal The Royal Society, debunks the theory that the fastest spermatozoid is the one that fertilizes the egg.
The one who achieves the feat is not necessarily the first to reach the ovary, but the one who is selected by the female reproductive cell through chemotherapy.
Un estudio realizado por investigadores de la Universidad de Estocolmo (Suecia) y de la Fundación Trust de la Universidad de Manchester (Reino Unido), publicado en la revista científica The Royal Society, echa por tierra la teoría de que el espermatozoide más rápido es el que fecunda el óvulo.
El que logra la hazaña no es necesariamente el primero en llegar al óvulo, sino el que es seleccionado por la célula reproductora femenina mediante quimioatrayentes.
