About the polemic scenes yesterday at the Paris Olympics ceremony… this scene relates to the Feast ofDionysus. Dionysus – Greek God of festivity, feasting, ritual, theater and Wine.
Olympics are from Greek culture and tradition, french culture is deeply rooted in feasting and festivity and perfoming arts.
The painting is by Jan Harmensz van Biljert painted in 1635, it is in the Magnin museum in Dijon. At the centre of the table, it is not Christ, but Apollon.
