Another one bites the proverbial woke dust.
The University of Wisconsin has removed a giant boulder from its Madison campus, after a group of student activists claimed that the rock was – you guessed it – ‘racist’.
Chamberlin Rock, which rested atop Observatory Hill, is named after a 19th-century geologist and former university president, Thomas Chrowder Chamberlin. However, almost 100 years ago, a local newspaper used the N-word in its coverage of the rock’s installation at the campus. The derogatory term was commonly used in the 1920s to describe any large, dark rock. University historians have not found any other instances of the term being used for the boulder, but they said the Ku Klux Klan was active on campus at that time.
The Black Student Union led the call to remove the rock last summer and recently achieved its goal. It cost an estimated $50,000, covered by private donations, to remove.
TLDR: Students were offended by a big rock and got it kicked out of the university.
