CHRYS, people from across the Northern Territory are angry. They’re angry at both their Territory and Federal Governments for letting them down.
From greenlighting fracking production, to handing over billions in public money to the controversial Middle Arm gas hub – all levels of government have a lot to answer for.
That’s why on Saturday afternoon, Traditional Owners protested alongside Northern Territory voters in Darwin.
The rally was held on Larrakia Country in Darwin on Saturday afternoon.
Traditional Owners travelled all the way from Borroloola to be there.
Nicholas Milyari Fitzpatrick, Yanyuwa-Garrwa Traditional Owner and GetUp First Nations Justice campaigner spoke about the long fight.
Traditional Owners had a clear message for Chief Minister Natasha Fyles – protect our country, our climate, our water, our health, and don’t frack the NT.
The rally comes just weeks after the Fyles Government asked all of us to trust them to protect water as they gave their support to frackers like Tamboran Resources and Empire Energy to proceed to full-scale production.1
But we all know the truth. We know there is still no plan to manage toxic fracking wastewater, and that Tamboran already stands accused of dumping that water onto cattle paddocks.2
And, we know Tamboran’s mega fracker – the monster machinery from Texas with the capacity to use at least 120 million litres of water – is going to make its way down the Stuart Highway to the Beetaloo Basin any day now.
So to make sure Chief Minister Fyles heard the message loud and clear, GetUp members chipped in to get full-page ads in two key Northern Territory newspapers, and the Canberra Times.
GetUp members chipped in to get full-page ads in the NT News, Katherine Times, and the Canberra Times.
Thanks to your help, the pressure is ramping up on all levels of government. And we can’t stop now.
With the threat of Tamboran’s mega fracker getting closer every day, it’s critical we build a massive wave of public opposition to their plans.
