Pope Francis first expresses support for gay marriage
LGBT couples deserve legal protection for their relationship, Pope Francis said in a new documentary.
In the film, which premiered on October 21, the pope also condemns the Donald Trump administration’s policy of segregating children at the U.S.-Mexico border. The pope called it “cruelty of the highest form.”
During the interview, director Evgenijus Afineevskis asked the pope what the place of the LGBT community is in the Catholic Church. Pope Francis assured him that he believed that homosexuals should be welcomed and accepted in the church.
“Homosexuals have the right to be part of the family,” the pope said. – They are children of God, they have a right to it. No one should be thrown out for that reason. “
Pope Francis first said as the pope that homosexual couples have the right to be legally recognized.
“We need to create a civil partnership law,” he said. – That way they would be legally barred. I agree with that. “
