A TOURIST visiting a vineyard in Victoria has made the frightful discovery of giant nest of huntsman spiders on a wooden stake.
The image, taken at the Yarra Valley, 90 kilometres east of Melbourne, shows at least ten of the spiders bunched up together on the wood.
After being shared on Reddit, the image inspired people to share their Huntsman horror stories.
“Worked on a horse stud in that area, one day on the farm I had to move 8 sheets of 3/4 plywood from one shack to another. It was a two person lift, so grab a mate and we move the first sheet. My mate turns around and his back is covered in grey huntsmans as big as dinner plates, so I brush them off,” one commenter said.
“There was also the time where I tried to squish one with a broom on a fairly high ceiling. The bristles ended up just giving it a massage till it fell behind the couch,” added another.
Australia is full of huntsman stories like Mount Coolum resident Lauren Ansell who stumbled across a gigantic arachnid at her home.
Ms Ansell said the spider looked as big as a grown man’s hand.
“We live at Mount Coolum, pretty much underneath the big rock,” she said.
“[The spider] was preventing us from using our barbecue.
“We made it unhappy as we tried to move it so we could cook.
“My boyfriend tried to squish it in the door but the spider was smart.
“The door only claimed two of its legs and it dropped and ran into the garden.”
