This is how (some) schoolkids in India learn their multiplication tables. While it may seem to be a form of the much-maligned ‘learning by rote’ system, it also helps to reduce a crucial number to a poem or a song-and-dance. The faces of your favourite friends would jump to your mind, because of this. So much so, if someone throws a bucketful of water on you while fast asleep and asks “eleven elevens are?”, the sleepy student would promptly reply: “Eleventy eleven”! PS: I suspect this has something to do with the fact of some Indians being great programmers.
