Located in the mid-Atlantic on Pico Island, Azores, Mount Pico is a stratovolcano that last erupted in 1718. Locally called Montanha do Pico, it is best known for its fumarole and the magnificent cloud hats it sometimes wears (technically, lenticular clouds). Aqui, defronte do “Peter – Café Sport”, já foi desmantelada a respectiva esplanada e as barrinhas de apoio às actividades marítimo-turísticas, relacionadas com o whale watching, estão a ser deslocalizadas para uma zona mais a sul do cais de Santa Cruz.

    Belmonte domina, para poente, quase toda a encosta oriental da Serra da Estrela e o vale formado pelo curso médio do Zêzere. Para norte, controla ainda parte da Serra da Estrela e do vale encaixado, onde o referido rio deixa o seu percurso de montanha para entrar na Cova da Beira, onde recebe outros cursos de água, depositando ao longo do seu leito ricos aluviões responsáveis pela acentuada fertilidade do seu solo (enorme aptidão agrícola) e pela riqueza mineira aluvial da região (cassiterite e ouro), que na Antiguidade foi marcante para a economia local. Para nascente avista-se o prolongamento do sistema montanhoso da Cordilheira Central 🥰

    Belmonte is one of the counties of Cova da Beira, being a mountain village, county seat, that currently has a municipal area with about 133,24km2, it has 4 parishes.
    From the landscape point of view, Belmonte dominates, to the west, almost the entire eastern slope of Serra da Estrela and the valley formed by the medium route of Zêzere. Up north, it controls even more a part of Serra da Estrela and the embedded valley, where the referred river leaves its mountain route to get into Cova da Beira, where it receives other water courses, depositing along its bed rich alluviums responsible for the acentuated fertility of its soil (enoromous agriculture skill) and for its aluvial mining wealth of the region (cassiterite and gold), that in antiquity it was remarking for the local economy. To the east one can see the extension of the mountainous system of the Cordilheira Central 🥰
