Few words in the world evoke such feelings of pain, loss, and suffering as “genocide.” Used to describe the most horrendous and detestable violations of human life, motivated by the most revolting manifestations of hate and prejudice conceivable, genocide is a word that should never be used lightly. It would be comforting to imagine genocide as a problem of the past that has since been solved, a barbaric habit that we as a species have evolved out of, but that is unfortunately far from the truth. Genocides continue to this day, and the future doesn’t promise an end to the misery either. It’s important to learn from our past, if we ever want to escape it. Read on to remember some of modern history’s darkest moments, in hopes that we’ll never have to relive them.

OS CELTAS DA GRÃ-BRETANHA DESCENDEM DE UMA TRIBO DA PENÍNSULA IBÉRICA

Uma equipa da Universidade de Oxford descobriu que os Celtas nativos da Grã-Bretanha descendem de uma tribo de pescadores da Península Ibérica que atravessou o Golfo da Biscaia há cerca de 6.000 atrás.

A análise do ADN indicou uma impressão genética virtualmente idêntica à dos habitantes das regiões costeiras ibéricas, cujos antepassados migraram para o norte entre 4.000 a 5.000 a.C.

Até aqui, o mundo académico defendia a origem céltica da Europa Central. Este estudo veio revolucionar esta visão. Como diz o Dr. Sykes, que liderou a investigação: «6.000 anos atrás os Ibéricos construíram barcos capazes de atravessar o oceano, o que lhes permitiu subir o Canal. (…) Grande parte dos habitantes das Ilhas Britânicas descendem, na verdade, dos Ibéricos.»

Facto curioso, já conhecido na histórica mítica da Irlanda desde a Idade Média (no “Livro das Invasões”), que relata a chegada da tribo ibérica dos Filhos de Mil, ou Milesianos, às Ilhas Britânicas liderados pelo seu Grande Bardo, Amergin, e que as conquistaram aos Tuatha De Dannan – o Povo das Fadas.
