The Laguna Garzón Bridge, Uruguay, was designed by architect Rafael Viñoly and has a unique design, unlike most bridges.
It is circular.
The reason for this design is quite simple. It was made that way to force drivers on the bridge to slow down. There are even crosswalks on the bridge that allow pedestrians to walk on the inside or outside of the bridge.
It was inaugurated in December 2015 and it was a very necessary action to be able to cross the lagoon. Before the bridge was built, the only way to get across the body of water was via a raft ferry that could only carry two cars at a time.
The construction of the bridge, which was inaugurated in 2015, has had many critics and detractors, but the unique nature of the work cannot be denied.
The bridge can now handle approximately 1,000 vehicles per day and provides a convenient way for pedestrians to cross the lagoon.
Well, for fishing it must be great…
Really, for pedestrians it is a joy to walk along its walkway and admire the beautiful views from its height.
Or watch a sunset from that platform.
The bridge over Laguna Garzón is located at a distance of 40 km from Punta del Este and it takes about 1 hour to travel along the sea and the beaches of the department of Maldonado.
