No decorrer de acompanhamento arqueológico a obras em edifício privado na Rua Fonte da Rosa (Belmonte) foi identificado um lagar rupestre escavado na rocha.

Geralmente, este tipo de lagar é uma estrutura muito simples com três elementos básicos: um reservatório onde se esmagavam as uvas, uma pia para onde escorria o mosto e um canal de ligação entre estes dois recipientes. Por vezes, em lagares conhecidos na região não existe a pia, possivelmente utilizando-se uma talha de cerâmica para receber o líquido.

Apesar de nem sempre ser possível determinar a cronologia destes lagares, quando aparecem isolados, sem material associado, geralmente são datados da época romana e como sendo lagares de vinho.

Estrutura semelhante, localizada no Sítio do Vale (Belmonte) foi também alvo de trabalhos de limpeza este verão, no decorrer do Campo Internacional do IPJ.
