A pandemia e as ilhas… dos outros
People living in one of Ireland’s few communities not to suffer any cases of Covid-19 have vowed to keep the virus out.
Arranmore Island off the coast of Donegal, which has a population of around 500 people, have shut themselves off from the mainland.
Islanders declared a lockdown on the island as far back as March 15 when they actively discouraged visitors from making the five kilometre ferry boat trip.
Jerry Early, who runs the popular Early’s Bar and hostel said they believe they made the right decision, if only one life is saved.
He admits that the tourism industry on the island will be decimated this summer but he says they are willing to pay that price for the health of the community.
