News from SBS, Australia. Prime Minister Scott Morrison says Australia will wait for the outcome of the upcoming UN investigation into West Papua.

Yesterday Dame Meg Taylor, secretary general of the Pacific Islands Forum reiterated the call from the recent PIF leaders meeting for the UN investigation to be urgently finalised.
West Papua was an ally of Australia during World War 2 and has since suffered 56 years of genocide under Indonesian colonial rule.
Over the last 2 weeks 10’s of 1000’s of West Papuan people have protested calling for a referendum on independence.
Now is the time for Australia to act.
West Papua has a legal right to self determination, decolonisation and independence.
